Killyleagh in the County of Down
is inhabited by around two thousand people. The town is situated
in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is dominated by the
splendid Killyleagh Castle.

For the last two centuries
Killyleagh was associated with the linen industry and the Mill was a
substantial employer in the locality. The linen mill closed in
1999 and little now remains of two centuries of history. However,
the town has not stood still and subsequent developments have enhanced
its pleasing aspects without detracting from its natural charm.

The castle, which sits at the top
of the High Street, was originally built after the Norman invasion
of England in the eleventh century. Although considerable changes
have been made it is still very impressive and is one of the oldest
castles in Ireland that remains a family home. |
